Brand New Release-Square Add-On 2.1

Gravity Forms is pleased to announce the release of the Square Add-On v2.1. As well as compatibility with Gravity Forms 2.8, this update includes support for generating a Square receipt URL…

  • Added the Square receipt URL merge tag.
  • Updated the theme framework variables to be compatible with Gravity Forms 2.8.

Generate a Square Receipt URL

Square 2.1 ships with a much-requested feature – the ability to generate and add a Square receipt URL to confirmations or notifications using the new {square_receipt_url} merge tag.

This merge tag gives you the option of automatically inserting links to receipts into the confirmation messages or notification emails that are automatically sent to users after they’ve made a payment via Square through one of your forms.

When the payment confirmation message or notification email is sent, the merge tag outputs the URL of the receipt that’s hosted by Square. The recipient can then view the receipt for the transaction associated with that form entry.

Thanks to this, anyone who makes a Square payment through one of your forms built with Gravity Forms will have easy access to their receipt.

All you have to do is add the merge tag to the confirmation or notification settings for the form, and the tag will be replaced with a link to the Square-hosted payment receipt.

You can view an example of the receipt that is linked to from the merge tag by clicking on the URL below:

The Square Add-On merge tag documentation explains how this feature works, while this guide to creating notification email for Gravity Forms showcases what’s possible when setting up these emails.

About the Gravity Forms Square Add-On

As well as the merge tag feature that was added in the v2.1 release, there are many other reasons to use the Square Add-On for taking online payments, including:

  • One-time Payments and Subscriptions – Whether you want to sell products online, take recurring monthly payments for your service, run a membership site, or accept one-time donations for your nonprofit, Gravity Forms and the Square Add-On make all that and more possible.
  • Authorize and Capture – If you want to authorize a payment for a reservation but not collect the payment until a future date, the authorize and capture functionality of Square makes that possible. Processing a payment after a product has been shipped or after a project has been completed are just some of the other ways you can use authorize and capture.
  • Process Refunds – Removing the need to log into your Square account, the Refund button allows you to conveniently refund payments made via your forms and update the form entry as needed, all from WordPress Admin.

Check out the documentation for more information on our Square Add-On.

Note: The Square Add-On is available with the Gravity Forms Pro and Elite licenses. For more information on the features and other add-ons available on these plans, check out the Pro and Elite license pages.
