About the Gravity Forms Chained Selects Add-On

The Gravity Forms Chained Selects Add-On is perfect for making long forms more user-friendly.

Chained selects, sometimes called cascading drop-down or cascading select fields, enable your forms to only show relevant options in form fields. To achieve this, chained selects use the user’s selection on the previous field to determine which options are shown in the next field.

For example, when a user chooses a car manufacturer in one field, only the models of cars made by that manufacturer are shown in the next field. The models of cars from other manufacturers aren’t shown.

This prevents the user from having to scroll through a long list of options on a drop-down menu that aren’t relevant to them.

You could also use chained selects on forms related to addresses. The user would select a specific state, and then only city options for that state are displayed in the next field.

Product selections are another use case for chained selects. The user would choose a brand in the first field, such as Apple or Samsung, and then only products from that brand are shown as options in the next field, such as iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 or Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S23.

Additionally, to make creating forms that use chained selects easier and faster, this add-on lets you import options via a CSV file. If you’re creating forms that have hundreds of options, such as car makes and models or dates of birth, being able to import a CSV file instead of creating all the fields manually is sure to save you time and reduce input errors.

Benefits of Using the Chained Selects Add-On

Installing the Chained Selects Add-On alongside Gravity Forms unlocks several benefits, including…

  • More User-Friendly Forms – Visitors have fewer options to scroll through due to irrelevant options not being displayed.
  • Lower Abandoned Rates – As forms take less time to complete and are more user-friendly, they should get completed at higher rates.
  • More Accurate Data Capture – Only showing relevant options prevents users from accidentally selecting inaccurate options, such as Apple from the “brand” field and then Galaxy S23 from the “model” field.
  • Easier Form Creation – The ability to import field choices or options via CSV files will speed up the form creation process, especially for forms and fields with lots of options.
