Gravity SMTP 1.1 – What’s New?

Gravity SMTP 1.1

Gravity SMTP makes it easy to integrate with the most trusted email providers, ensuring your emails are always sent.

Version 1.1 ships with a number of new major integrations, as well as a number of features to enhance the functionality of Gravity SMTP.

Let’s take a look…

Send Emails via Google Workspace / Gmail

Google Gmail Settings

With Gravity SMTP 1.1, you can now integrate your WordPress website with Gmail or a Google Workspace account, helping to improve email deliverability and prevent your carefully crafted content from ending up in spam folders.

When trying to decide if Google is the right integration for you, it’s important to check the email sending limits for Gmail and Google Workspace.

If you like the idea of using Google services with your own domain name for a more professional experience, then Google Workspace might be the best choice. It’s also a very affordable option for anyone who needs to send up to 2,000 emails a day.

For more information on how to get started with Google Workspace / Gmail, check out the documentation.

Send Emails via Microsoft 365 / Outlook

Microsoft Outlook Settings

Gravity SMTP 1.1 also gives you the option of using Microsoft 365 / Outlook to deliver your site’s emails.

You’ll now be able to easily connect via Gravity SMTP to Microsoft’s API to securely authenticate and send any emails or form notifications from your WordPress website. Be sure to check the Outlook email sending limits before you get started.

For more information on Microsoft 365 / Outlook, read our documentation.

Send Emails via the PHP Mail Function

PHP Mail Settings

With Gravity SMTP 1.1 you’ll also find a new PHP Mail integration. This allows you to easily use your server’s default PHP mail function to send emails, if required.

When using the PHP mail function, emails might not be delivered reliably, so for optimal performance we always recommend using a dedicated email provider. However, PHP Mail may be a great option for many as a backup connection – a feature new to 1.1 that we’ll discuss next.

To find out more, check out the PHP Mail documentation.

Select a Backup Connection

Primary and Backup Connections

The new Backup Connection feature in 1.1 allows you to select an additional email provider that you’d like to use as a backup, if your primary email service fails.

From password reset emails to new user registrations, form notifications, and more, most WordPress sites need to send ALOT of emails. Setting up a backup option helps to ensure email deliverability and gives you peace of mind that your emails will be sent, even if there’s an issue with your primary email service.

For more details on this new feature, check out the documentation.
