Gravity Forms v1.7.7 Released
By Carl HancockGravity Forms v1.7.7 is now available via automatic update and the downloads page. While vX.X.X releases going forward will only contain updates, bug fixes, refinements and NO new features, v1.7.7 does include some new features. Only vX.X releases will contain new features going forward. On that note, i’m also please to announce that development on Gravity Forms v1.8 has begun! One of the new features in v1.7.7 is an easter egg! We aren’t telling you what it is… yet. The first person to comment on this release announcement and correctly guess what the feature is, will win a free Gravity Forms renewal. Maybe we’ll even throw in a free upgrade if you don’t already have a Business or Developer License! If nobody guesses correctly, we’ll post another blog post at the beginning of next week revealing the new feature and it’s details. Here’s a hint… it has to do with Entries. The other new feature is support for the Touch Punch script which makes jQuery UI touch enabled. Touch Punch is a core WordPress script so we are able to implement this without introducing new scripts within Gravity Forms. The primary benefit of this feature is it makes any functionality… READ MORE

By Carl HancockThe Gravity Forms PayPal Payments Pro Add-On v1.0 Beta 1 is now available. Not to be confused with the legacy PayPal Pro, this new Add-On allows you to accept payments via PayPal’s newer PayPal Payments Pro payment processing service. As new payment processing startups such a Stripe and WePay move in on PayPal’s turf it has forced them to re-organize their product offerings which has caused fragmentation. What was previously known as PayPal Pro is not the same thing that is currently being marketed by PayPal as PayPal Payments Pro. If you signed up for PayPal’s “Pro” offering within the last year you likely have a newer PayPal Payments Pro account utilizing the Payflow API that this Add-On is designed to integrate with.

By Carl HancockWe are announcing a major change to how we handle standard support. It will no longer be handled via a forum system. We will now be handling standard support requests via the same ticketing system we utilize for Contact Us and Priority Support requests. Due to Gravity Forms explosive user growth over the last 4 years, the volume of support requests has also risen. This has made managing standard support via a forum environment simply to inefficient and unmanageable for our support team to provide the level of support we’d like to provide our users. Discussion Forums are simply not designed for managing and facilitating support. They are designed for discussion.

By Carl HancockGravity Forms v1.7.6 is now available via automatic update and the downloads page. This is a major maintenance release that introduces quite a few changes under the hood as well as some new hooks for developers to take advantage. One major non-user facing change that we are extremely excited about in this release is the first iteration of the Gravity Forms Add-On Framework. This is a framework built into Gravity Forms to allow both developers to develop Add-Ons more efficiently and quickly by standardizing a lot of the things that almost every Add-On needs or utilizes. This will be extremely helpful for both Add-Ons we develop and Add-Ons developed and released by 3rd party developers. Currently the Add-On Framework in this release is dormant, it is not being used. But we will be releasing an Add-On soon that does utilize it which is why it is being included in this release. We will also be releasing documentation specific about the Add-On Framework, what it can do and how it can be used by developers. We’re really excited that this will make it easier for developers to create Add-Ons for Gravity Forms is a more consistent and efficient manner.
Read moreCan’t Update Gravity Forms? Can’t Install Add-Ons? Your IP May Be Blacklisted
By Carl HancockWe have seen a rise in the number of people reporting issues automatically updating Gravity Forms, downloading or updating Gravity Forms add-ons from within their WordPress Dashboard. Upon investigation, we have discovered that the issue is typically due to a shared IP address being blacklisted by one of a number of Internet security firms. This is a common problem with shared web hosts. Unlike most VPS and dedicated solutions, shared web hosts will share an IP address across multiple customers. If one customer does something malicious (intentionally or unintentionally) he can get that IP address blacklisted by one or more internet security providers. In other words, one user of a shared IP address can easily ruin things for all users of that shared IP address. To be clear, this can also happen on VPS and dedicated solutions. You can accidentally get your IP address blacklisted, or the previous user of that IP address may have gotten it blacklisted. But it is much more common with shared web hosts that use shared IP addresses. This is an issue that web hosts should not ignore. If they are providing customers with blacklisted IP addresses, it’s like providing a user with a stolen… READ MORE
