Introducing the Official PayPal Checkout 2.0 Add-On for Gravity Forms
By Gravity Forms Published April 13, 2021Today we are excited to announce the release of the PayPal Checkout 2.0 Add-On! The Gravity Forms PayPal Commerce Platform Add-On has changed its name, gained new features, and has become PayPal Checkout – now our #1 PayPal Add-On.
With PayPal Checkout you’ll find everything you need to successfully accept payments on your WordPress website. From securely taking one-off payments, to setting up recurring subscriptions via your forms and authorizing refunds through your WordPress admin, PayPal Checkout will make a big difference to all our customers who use PayPal to take payments online.
PayPal Checkout Rollout: When Will I Get Access to It?
Here at Gravity Forms we are trialing a new way of releasing our add-ons. PayPal Checkout will be released via a staggered rollout over the next two weeks – this means that each day a new section of our PayPal Commerce Platform Add-On users will be given access to the update through WordPress admin.
However, if you can’t wait to get your hands on the new PayPal Checkout release, the add-on is available to download from today, for all Pro and Elite customers, from within your Gravity Forms dashboard.
Here’s a summary of how to access the PayPal Checkout Add-On release…
- PayPal Commerce Platform Add-On Users – You can expect to receive the update (PayPal Commerce Platform to PayPal Checkout) at some point over the next two weeks within your WordPress admin (if you have background updates enabled then this will be an automatic update).
- All Gravity Forms Pro and Elite Users – Whether you have PayPal Commerce Platform enabled on your site but can’t wait for the update, or if you are interested in downloading the add-on for the first time, the PayPal Checkout Add-On can be downloaded from your Gravity Forms account dashboard from today.
If you have any questions on PayPal Checkout, or the staggered release procedure, please contact Support.

What Does this Mean for Our Other PayPal Add-Ons?
With the release of PayPal Checkout, it is our intention to consolidate our existing PayPal Add-Ons as follows:
- PayPal (Payment Standard) will be retired (see below)
- PayPal Payments Pro will be retired (see below)
- PayPal Pro remains retired
We will eventually stop all support and development for both PayPal (Payment Standard) and PayPal Payments Pro, but at this time there is no official date for when this retirement process will begin. We expect it to take some time, and will provide multiple updates about it on this blog, and within our official documentation site.
Therefore, now is the perfect time to make the move to PayPal Checkout, and get the most out of our new #1 PayPal Add-On.
